Our Guide to Understanding Shower Enclosure Shapes

If you’re faced with planning a brand new bathroom, you may be lucky enough to have the freedom to choose any shower enclosure shape you fancy! Here’s our guide to the different shapes on offer and some design tips to take into consideration.

1 – The Qaudrant

We usually refer to shower ‘enclosures’ where there is a shower tray with matching ‘enclosure’ panels and doors to create a fully enclosed showering area. However the trend for single shower panels and ‘walk-in’ enclosures without a fully closing door means that the description can become a little blurred at times. Whatever you want to call your shower set up, here’s our guide to the generally used terms and descriptions. This on is our Hamburg Quadrant Shower Enclosure, which is a great-space, providing a roomy shower space whilst being fully-enclosed and making very efficient use of the floor space. 900x900mm quadrant sizes are also available.

2 – The Square

A square shower enclosure is a good choice for a more angular design scheme, and choosing an enclosure with a bi-fold door makes good use of space. It’s a neat look, and for a corner position, means that there is a single clear glass panel required for the non-opening side. This is our London Bifold Shower Enclosure, which is for a 700x700mm space, shown with London Square Stone tray. Also available with a Matt Black frame for a very stylish look.

3 – The Rectangular

A Rectangular shower enclosure is perfect for more ‘elbow room’ within the shower, and can be considered a suitable choice if perhaps you’ll be wanting to supervise little ones in the shower, or perhaps fit in a shower stool or seat to help elderly or less-abled users feel more comfortable when using the shower. An enclosure with a sliding door, as shown here, or an outward opening door, is a good choice for the same accessibility reasons. This is our Oslo Premium Easy Clean Sliding Shower Enclosure, with the stunning London Slate Grey Shower Tray – there are lots of sizes available too.

4 – The Offset Quadrant

The Offset Quadrant enclosure is available in left or right handed options, so it’s perfectly possible to have straight lines and curved within the same scheme. The idea of the offset shape is that it can accommodate a double-door entrance, and has a little bit more room inside than a regular non-offset design. This is our Hamburg design wit a matt black frame, and it’s shown with a matching London Offset Quadrant tray in white. The long edge comes in two sizes, 1000mm and 1200mm, and for the shorter edge, specify 800mm or 900mm, so there should be a solution for all bathroom layouts.

5 – The Walk-In with Double Return Panel

These options are a luxury choice where the shower area is designed to have no tray, so it’s usually described as a wet-room shower. The water drains away through a channel set into the floor, so a ‘wet-room’ shower will require a slightly raised floor to allow for the installation of this type of drain. Needless to say, the floor has to be completely watertight! We love the look of our Copenhagen Walk Through Wet Room Shower Panel, which has two smaller return panels to help enclose the shower spray. Lovely and luxurious!

6 – The Single Walk in Wet Room Panel

Placing a Wet Room Panel flush to the wall creates a walk-in enclosure that will contain pretty much all the spray, whilst going without a tray. The floor will need to be fully waterproof, and either a central drain or channel set into the tiles… most wet rooms have a tiled floor. This is our Munich Brushed Brass Single Panel, with a matching support bar. This model has 8mm Easy Clean glass, other sizes available are 700mm, 800mm, 900mm and 1200mm.

7 – A Closer Look at Quadrant Stone

Our Quadrant Stone Shower Enclosure Trays are available in White and Slate Grey, and are made from acrylic capped stone resin, which is tough, easy to clean and has a gloss finish. All of our enclosure have a matching tray, with Leg Sets, Plinth and Riser Sets available too. Choose a matching Shower Waste in Chrome, Brass or Matt Black. 8 – Walk-in Shower Enclosure with Pivot Return Panel

This Munich Matt Black Grid Walk-in Shower Enclosure is an easy-access design. There’s a little bit of added protection from spray encroaching into the room, thanks to the Pivot Return Panel. The black grid design is super-stylish, and when teamed up with a heated towel rail, such as our Santorini Electric Matt Black Flat Panel Heated Towel Rail 1200x600mm and Matt Black Shower Fittings, the look is very desirable indeed, whilst providing practical showering facilities.
