Easy and Affordable Bathroom Upgrades

Sometimes, let’s be honest, we just want to upgrade our bathrooms just a little. Not a full re-design, but perhaps a little re-fresh, perhaps adding a cabinet or a new basin or maybe replacing the shower set. It can be a good way to re-focus on a particular aspect of the room – and best of all, many of our suggestions are under £100…

1 – A New Shower Set

Get the shower area – cubicle or over bath – spruced up by installing a new shower set. Perhaps you’re replacing something that’s been in a while and is suffering from limescale fatigue… remember that if you’ve got hard water, whisking over the equipment with a dry cloth after use will help stop limescale developing. This is our Lismore Essential Round Thermostatic Rigid Shower Set for just £94.99 – it has a fixed rail and overhead round rose, plus a hand-held shower head which is perfect for hair-washing and rinsing down the cubicle or bath after use.

2 – Upgrade your Pedestal Basin

A pedestal basin is straightforward to replace – especially if you’re replacing one pedestal basin with another… the plumbing requirements should be the same. Perhaps you want to add some straight lines to the design scheme, in which case our Portland Square Pedestal basin, at £99.99, should do the trick. Curvy designs, such as our Austin or Denver also come in at under £100! Our single-hole mixer taps are available in Matt Black, Chrome and Gold for a sleek finishing touch.

3 – Add a Mirror with Integral Lighting

Adding a brand new mirror to the bathroom will immediately uplift the look. As a general top, we would say go for the largest design that will fit in the space, as mirrors are space-enhancing as well as being rather useful in that the emphasise the available light too. For under £100, currently priced at £67.99, our Madison Battery Operated Illuminated Mirror measures 600mmx400mm so would suit any sized bathroom, as well as a smaller cloakroom. It’s battery operated, so doesn’t need to be wired in, so is perfect for a quick, fuss-free update! There’s also a larger version available, measuring 700mmx500mm.

4 – Change your Tap – Perhaps to a High Rise Design

Upgrade with a taller tap! Our high rise designs are made taller to work (and look) better with a surface mounted bowl-style basin. This is our Welland Chrome Mixer Tap, which has a very easy to grip lever operation. A tall tap just gives that little bit extra space for hand and face washing. This design comes in Chrome and Matt Black – which could add a whole new look to a bathroom, especially is you’re planning to change all the taps and fittings to matt black. Oh, and Bathroom Mountain has black radiators available too for a stylish finishing touch.

5 – Upgrade with a Stylish Towel Rail

A towel radiator has horizontal bars so that it’s easy to hang up damp towels to air and dry – and of course, the radiator also warms the room. Yes, some people prefer vertical radiators – which as a great choice for small spaces, but if you need to warm the room and air linen at the same time, go for a smart towel radiator. This is the Santorini Anthracite Flat Panel Heated Towel Rail; it comes in many different sizes and configurations, including an electric version, which is a good choice if you don’t have the central heating on all year round. Shown here, the 1200mmx600mm version, but choose from a total of 10 sizes, from 650mmx400mm upwards! This size is £199.

6 – Streamline Your Bathroom Accessories

The devil is in the detail, so pay attention to the final details of your bathroom design. A mixed assortment of accessories such as towel rings, robe hooks and toilet roll holder doesn’t do much for your style credibility! Choosing a matching set will pull the whole room together, and also provide somewhere to hang robes, hand-towels and to keep traditional styles, such as Eleanor in Chrome, as well as minimalist stylish designs such as Isla, in Matt Black. The squared-off detailing would match very well with our Avon mixer taps.

7 – Get a Brushed Brass Filler

An easy and very striking upgrade is to replace existing chrome taps with different finish – such as Matt Black or Brushed Brass. Of course, consider changing the shower fittings and basin taps to match, too! A dramatic change of finish will breath a whole new lease of life into a bathroom scheme, and as long as you’re replacing like-for-like, doesn’t involve lots of disruption and new plumbing. Change your chrome bath taps for these sophisticated Medway Brushed Brass Version for a great new look – brass works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional style homes.

8 – Co-ordinate a New Mirror to Match the Taps

This bathroom has some great design details… we love all the contrasts, such as the diagonal lines of the tiles, the curves of the basin, the rectangular base mount of the taps, and last, but not least, the beautifully simple, black-framed mirror. If your budget is under £100 for a new look, consider the Mollie Black Framed Bathroom Mirror, which is 500mm diameter, and is currently just £45. And if you want to make your bathroom scheme a bit lighter, there are also illuminated versions too. Just the job for tiny cloakrooms, as well as bigger bathrooms!
