Wastes – if you don’t know what they are, or what their use is for, they can be quite mysterious things. But fear not, we’re explaining exactly what you need to know – nothing more, nothing less! After all, we don’t want to waste your time.

What is a waste?

A waste is a piece that acts as the exit for the water that you have used in your basin (you may also know it as a plug/plug hole!) It’s also there to help keep your plumbing ticking along as it should stop blockages too.

What does unslotted basin waste mean?

An unslotted pop-up basin waste’s main purpose is dependent on the type of basin you have. If your basin has a built-in overflow, then you should purchase a slotted waste. If your basin does not have an overflow, you’ll need to grab an unslotted waste.

An overflow is a hole underneath your tap that allows water to drain if it should ‘overflow’ – the clue is in the name! You should make sure you check your basin before purchasing a waste, as the wrong one won’t fit (and that’s a pain in the neck you can easily avoid…)

What is a pop-up basin waste?

A pop-up basin waste will often be used alongside the term ‘click-clack’ waste. A ‘click-clack’ waste is when you push the stopper down to close it and then again to open it. A pop-up basin waste uses a waste lever that you push or pull to raise or lower the stopper.
